Only to Other People
I've been told that dreams come true
And handsome boys fall in love with you.
But it only seems to happen in the movies
Only in fairy tales,
Only in the books I've read,
And only to other people.
So many times I've heard them say,
"Bide your time, he'll come your way"
But it only seems to happen in the movies
Only in fairy tales
Their original, relate able lyrics, over rock and roll/soulful vibes, makes the music of The Detroit Cobras accessible, and memorable. It seems that bringing back sounds from 1960s American radio is alive within Motown, yet no matter what sound overwhelms our eardrums at a given period in time, it's lyrics that truly sink a song deep within our memory. Who can't relate to the words, in Only to Other People?
I can. I never give my hopes up on men and ideas of romance anymore...It saves me the disappointment of being let down later. I go with the flow, and take my time, never giving all my attention fully to one person--- Romance is frankly, not a top priority in my life right now. But who doesn't from time to time, envy that couple strolling arm-in-arm down main street, laughing as they stop in every shop, trying on silly hats and taking pictures, like they were in a teenage dreamland once again?
Actually, to be honest, I do things like that all the time, whether it be with girlfriends, or my latest "love-interest". So perhaps, I am a fantastical, care-free, romantic at heart...I share the love and happiness with all around me. But, there is something about the sound of The Detroit Cobras that leads me to imagine how pleasant it would be to find that person, "my person."
And who can't relate to having a "Weak Spot" ---That indescribable feeling that suffocates all other sensations, upon simply seeing _________.
AH! SNAP OUT OF IT! --BACK TO REALITY!
***What I connect with most, is that these chicks deliver their messages with a sense of a sassy-sophistication. "I see how the world really works, and you can't fool me. I'm not doe-eyed deer!"
They are Detroit Cobras!
And with all I've learned in the land of love, I'd rather hiss and intimidate unwanted company from the get-go, than waste time attracting incompatible mates with my enticing vibes, only later having to deliver a venomous dose of reality.
Sure, a woman's image, like The Detroit Cobras' vibes- may be alluring, seemingly familiar, comforting, and desirable...
But don't be blinded by beauty; immersed in imagination.
Be real. Listen to what she says, and how she says it.
Things are never as sweet as they seem.
